How to Choose a Fragrance Oil for Your Home Diffuser

Choosing a scent is the fun part of owning a home diffuser, and also the hardest. There are a lot of options, and you cannot smell a screen. This guide helps you narrow it down.

Fragrance oils or essential oils?

Essential oils come from plants. Lavender and Lemon are two examples. Fragrance oils are blended scents, such as Fresh Linen or Baby Powder. Both work in the PurePod diffuser, so it comes down to the kind of scent you like. Many people keep one of each.

Start with the scent family

  • Warm and woody. Rich Sandalwood blends soft spice, cedarwood and sandalwood. It is one of our most popular oils and suits living rooms and reading corners.
  • Fresh and coastal. Coastal Calm pairs grapefruit and tangerine with bergamot and soft sage. It is another best seller and works well in bedrooms and hallways.
  • Bright and citrus. Mandarin Spa mixes mandarin, orange and bergamot with jasmine, rose and a warm amber base. It is our third best seller and feels at home in bathrooms.
  • Clean and soft. Fresh Linen has green leaves, lily, rose and iris over sandalwood. Baby Powder is powdery and musky.
  • Fruity and tropical. Island Escape is pineapple, peach and passion fruit. Bahama Boost adds watermelon, guava, coconut water and hibiscus. Black Cherry is sweet cherry over vanilla.
  • Cosy and festive. Apple & Cinnamon and Gingerbread House are made for the colder months.
  • Herbal and fresh. Realign combines lemon, lime, lavender and eucalyptus.

Match the scent to the room

Think about how you use the space. A hallway or bathroom suits something bright and quick to notice. A bedroom or study often suits something softer. Your home office might call for a fresh citrus, while a reading chair calls for something warm. There is no wrong answer, so go with what you enjoy.

Blends worth a look

Our essential oil blends combine a few oils in one bottle. The bedtime blend combines lavender, ylang ylang and camomile. Relax and Unwind uses bergamot, lemongrass and lavender. Feel Better has lime, bergamot and ylang ylang.

How long will a bottle last?

For heavy users, a fragrance bottle should last around a month or two. For lighter users it can last around four months. Changing scent is simple: unscrew one bottle and replace it with another.
