White PurePod home diffuser on a wooden shelf with dried flowers

Best Home Diffuser for a Small Room (UK Guide)

Small rooms such as bathrooms, hallways, studies and box rooms are where a home diffuser works best, but they are also easy to overdo. This guide covers what to look for.

Pick a diffuser with adjustable strength

In a small space, a little scent goes a long way. Look for a diffuser with more than one intensity setting so you can start low and turn it up if you want more. The PurePod home diffuser has three intensity settings.

Choose one that is quiet

Small rooms are often where you sleep, work or relax, so noise matters. A diffuser that releases a fine mist in subtle, quiet bursts will not interrupt a phone call or a film.

Go cordless if you can

Hallways, bathrooms and shelves do not always have a spare plug socket. A rechargeable diffuser can go anywhere. PurePod charges by USB-C and runs for up to 70 hours on one charge.

Skip the water tank

Water-based diffusers need filling and cleaning, which is a nuisance in a bathroom or on a high shelf. A waterless diffuser uses oil only, so there is nothing to refill with water and nothing to wash out.

Start with a lighter scent

Fresh and soft scents suit small rooms well. Try Mandarin Spa or Coastal Calm, two of our most popular oils. Heavier scents such as Rich Sandalwood also work, on a lower setting.

Where to put it

  • Place it at about shelf height rather than on the floor.
  • Keep it away from direct heat and from wet surfaces.
  • Put it near the doorway rather than the middle of the room so the scent drifts gently.
